Narragansett 2100 Press Releases

Letter from the Chief of Police

Sharing a community space, it is crucial to abide by the town of Narragansett’s laws. Refresh your memory of some of the Narragansett Renter Ordinances or realize the consequences of the Narragansett Town laws which outlines the possible fines that could be incurred.

August 9th, 2024

Welcome

Allow me to introduce myself as the Chief of the Narragansett Police Department. I’d like to welcome you to this great community.  As new residents of Narragansett I hope you enjoy all this town has to offer and that you have a rewarding school year.

So that you may properly assimilate into this community and avoid the potential pitfalls of being a college renter I would like you to be mindful of the following information:

  • Many neighborhoods have a no parking / tow zone ordinance, so be sure to read the parking signs posted in your neighborhood.
  • Many of the fines for party related offenses cost as much as $500.00. You can research the various offenses and schedule of fines on the town website under Code of Ordinances.
  • Be a good neighbor. Meet all your neighbors and become part of this residential neighborhood by starting an open line of communication.
  • Please be mindful of the impact your behavior has on the residential neighborhood you are now living in. Behavior standards are that of a residential neighborhood not a college party neighborhood.
  • If you have a gathering, know who is in your house. Every year student renters are victimized by people they allow into their rentals. Theft, assaults and vandalism are just some of the crimes you may become a victim of when you don’t know who is in your home.
  • During school breaks, such as the winter recess, lock your homes and take any valuables with you. In past years rentals have been broken into while the students were away.
  • Please take a few minutes and go to the Town website to sign up for Citizen Alerts. This will allow you to receive important emergency information during hurricane season and during winter storms. It will also help you avoid the winter parking ban ramifications of ticketing and towing.
  • Please follow the Narragansett Police Department on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Messages regarding public safety, enforcement operations and community cooperation are frequently posted.

The Narragansett Police Department is here as a resource for you as our residents. We are always available to you and we hope you have a safe, enjoyable and productive school year.

Respectfully,

Sean Corrigan
Chief of Police
